What began as a small social impact project during Gandhi Fellowship has grown into a celebrated ethical fashion brand—now embraced by global icon Priyanka Chopra.
Swara was founded in 2018 by Asha Scaria during her posting in Dungarpur, Rajasthan, where she met young, skilled, and ambitious women with limited income opportunities. While men migrated to cities for work, women were left behind—full of potential, but with no platform to express it.
Asha set out to change that. Swara started by connecting women tailors to conscious consumers through bold, Rural x Urban designs—woven with storytelling at its core. The vision extended beyond fashion, imagining a future where women could also run homestays and offer immersive rural experiences—from farming to folklore.
Today, Swara stands as a pioneer in India’s ethical, D2C fashion movement, drawing volunteers and ambassadors from across the world—and proving that when rural women lead, they don’t just stitch garments, they stitch change.
